BH's family likes to do Asian buffet for Christmas. It doesn't seem to matter how careful I am.
It's hard to eat low-carb at an Asian buffet. Lots of cornstarch in sauces, lots of batter on foods, even the seemingly simple dishes like egg foo young (without the gravy) can have things like flour in them to smooth out the omelet. It sounds like you're handling it as well as can be, though.

A 113 this morning. Probably had too big a serving of peas and cabbage last night. I bet the bowl of home made potato soup for lunch didn't help either. Gonna have to retest the soup after it has been refrigerated to see if the starch retrograded, because it sure tasted good.

Question: Does it make a difference when I test? I've been getting up around 0830, and I end up testing my BG around 0845 - 0900. I'm just hoping I don't need to increase my Metformin. I thought after I retired, and everything calmed down, my BG would drop. I've increased my exercise, I fast from about 8:30 pm until the morning when I test. Is that too long? Is my brain thinking I'm in starvation mode and telling my liver to push out glucose?
