Let's see if we can brighten some winter days (at least in the Northern Hemisphere) with a little game. I'll put up a picture of something. If you're the first to guess what it is, you get to put up a picture of something everyone else gets to guess about. First one who's correct on that one gets to post the next picture, so please keep the chain going and don't play if you' don't want to put up a picture next. Poster of the picture decides on how correct the answer is.

Fire away (that's a clue, btw)!

Looks like a reconditioned steam piston that turns the wheels of an old style locomotive locomotive.

Ding! We have a winner! It's a/the piston that turns the wheels of a Big Boy steam locomotive, the biggest one ever built (it was on tour here a few years ago in The Before Times).

mbuster is the winner and gets to post a picture we all can guess at.

One of the Big Boys came thru Ft.Worth back in early August. I had a friend post pictures taken from his drone. Pretty dang big.

OK, who can tell me what this fun guy is?

What, no guesses???? OK, I've read that it is called a cauliflower mushroom. I read it is bitter but edible, may have to try it if it sprouts back up this year.

OK, one last try for a new contestant.

It's not what you think it is. It was taken by a friends daughter with a camera phone so much zooming in only blurs it more.

Well, my guess would have been Hen of the Woods, which would have been wrong. HotW is edible, too, though I've never eaten one. Let's see if people have better luck with this new picture.

What, no guesses??? Although it sure looks like a bear (and that was what I guessed it was when I first saw this picture) it is actually a mostly black female Australian Shepherd with a bunch of puppies gathered up next to her. My "other side of the hill" neighbor shared it with me. His daughter took the picture with her phone camera thru a screened window, adding to blurriness. I got one of the puppies, so I know its legit.

Anybody want to put up a pic???
