In dealing with diabetes, where do you focus your mental thinking? What drives you to concentrate your efforts? How do you live day by day?

My thinking is set on the externals of life, my family, my employer, my friends, my faith. I found through my life that I can't hold accountability to myself, I owe those I love every effort to control my situation and move on in life. When I keep the reasons and requirements for living accountable to those I love, I find things easier to deal with. To face the morning to evening in a Samuratic Bushido point of view. It's a regime I'm comfortable with since serving in Japan with the US Navy.

Hello Dan, I often wonder how people cope with this condition as I have this most of my life and it would be nice to eat without the fear of going low and the equipment that keeps you in control. Socially I feel isolated as I find to keep BG's to an acceptable level wile getting on with life. I have my fun in Ballet as I did in my younger days and see performances in my local theater.

Dan, that is a good message you have posted today. Thanks! I was diagnosed when I was 6, back in 1945, so I do not remember how it was day by day before I bacame diabetic. A diabetic life is all I know. That actually makes it easier for me. I have had a long, healthy and very good life and I will be 70 this year. My favorite thing to do is to help other diabetics in these diabetic support groups. I post on several sites and have made many friends. There is much we can learn by sharing with each other and I have learned much from these diabetes sites. They keep me focused and my health and my attitude have improved because of the sharing we do with each other.

I have an interest in how far we've come in Diabetes treatments over the past 50 or so years, what was it like for you during the 1950 for instance? Obviously you had no BG meters. What was treatment like? What was general life like?

Dan if you look at the second a third "Stickey's" in the "Diabetes" forum you will see that I have posted my diabetes story. The first chapter will help answer your question. All of my diabetes history and autobiography are presented in a 20 chapter format there.
