I think I would certainly obtain more than just one doctor's opinion. I'm not that educated where Type 1 is concerned, but seems to me that no matter what age those bg's need to be controlled. I would advise the Mom to find a Pediatric Endocrinologist (if such things exist) or at least a specialist for the baby. I would not allow my child to experience such horrendous complications. That is not normal. Tell your friend to do as much research as possible regarding juvenile diabetes, Type 1, whatever and get that child to a doctor who can help. She needs to be on insulin because Type 1's do not create insulin at all. It's such a shame that such doctor's exist in this world. Makes you wonder what the heck are they teaching them in college, med school, etc.

Yes I know the sad part is that she is on insulin but im not sure if thats enough and i doesnt help when the babys diet consists of mcdonalds and anything else she wants I dont think her mom has any idea of the damage this poor baby is going through
Why don't you hook that Mom up with this website so she can gain more knowledge. McDonald's is going to be the downfall of Americans I swear! Happy Meals are not an alternative to a healthy diet! That Mom needs to be educated on healthy eating for her baby. What is wrong with people today? Do they really not think eating that stuff will harm you? Ick

I totally agree with wdmama! Even if this Mom is in denial, she better get over it quickly if she loves that baby and get the help that is needed. That baby might need to be on a pump since she is Type 1 with out of control numbers. She is putting her child at extreme risk of horrible bad things happening, the worst which would be death. Make her understand that please.
