well it appears you've done extremely well in that timeframe... onya (yeah that's aussie slang for "good on you"). I've had the D for 12 years now and all I can say is you need to always keep up your positive attitude as that is what counts. I've learnt nothing necessarily stays the same... you continue on with learning and adjusting things as you go. Like you, I was successful with my diet and exercise in the first couple of years after diagnosis and I didn't need medication for that period after losing weight and all... then it changed and I had to readjust my mindset (after getting irate that nothing I knew to work was working)... always have to stay focused on the positive.

Eric,

My year is coming up in March. I have only been here on DiabetesForum for a month or so and I have to say you have been a great inspiration for me. It is impressive to see your results and I can only hope I do as well. Look back to a year ago and then compare to today. Then pat yourself on your back you deserve it.

Wow. That really surprises me - congrats!

I assumed you were a long-timer... So you lost over 100 pounds in only a YEAR? That's amazing.

You're one of the real success stories on this forum, Eric. I'm shocked to learn you're only a year into your Dx. But that just shows what people can do, and really motivates us newbies!

Good Job, and keep on doing it!

I would insert the pom-pom emoticon here... but I'm a 45-year old nearly 260 pound former defensive lineman... and me with pompoms just seems wrong. So ... fist bump!

Way to go Eric!! I know the feeling! I was diagnosed in April of this year and started eating lowcarb and walking a mile a day (at least) and am now 55 lbs. lighter! I'm going to try to post pictures, but if they don't work you can see them on my blog at A Day in the Life of a Middle Aged Woman

Don't mean to hijack your thread Eric!! :) Wish we could go out for a lowcarb celebration!! LOL

You guys are all great motivators for newbies. I took off 50 pounds before I was dx'd with diabetes and then when I started low carb another 38 just melted away. Actually now I am trying to gain a few pounds, I never thought I would say that. It is all due to LC/HF diet and walking a few miles every other day and tennis once a week. I think the biggest help is forums like DF to get support when you need it.

Congratulations Eric. You've learned more in one year than I learned in seven. I appreciate your signature....honest and right to the point.

well I suppose. Not in any order. But 80 pounds in ten months. I won't get the other 20 I wanted by the one year mark as my loss is really slowed down.
What a difference, totally amazing! Great job Murph. I can see why you are so cold, your insulation fell off. :)

This is a VERY persuasive thread! Incredibly persuasive! I think I might be ready to take off the next 35# . . . :D :D :D
Shanny, I'll do it with you! How do you plan to do it? You have already cut most of the carbs out of your diet.

When I say "LC/HF" diet, I mean really lavish fats! :D When I started eating extra low-carb, I started adding a smear of butter or something to slow the absorption of any lurking carbs . . . and I carried it to extreme. I could trim half the fats I eat and prob'ly not miss 'em. At least I'm gonna try. I started posting my weight along with fbg on the fbg thread at the first of the year . . . now I'll try to effect greater changes in those numbers! I guess we'll see what happens, won't we?

And now that spring may be in the offing, I'll be walking.
