I have the Relion micro, which I find very reliable, easy to use (very few errors), and nice and small. I also have an old FreeStyle Flash, which they don't sell anymore and I've heard that eventually they'll stop making the strips.

The Relion strips cost $36/100. The FreeStyle Flash strips, even from a very good online company, cost me $60/100 plus shipping. (I pay everything out-of-pocket.)

The FreeStyle allows testing on the arm, thigh, edge of palm, and a couple of other places, but I have trouble getting enough blood anywhere except my fingers. It also uploads, which is nice.

I keep hearing that the Relion Prime (the new model) isn't as reliable as the Micro or Confirm, so I think I'll just keep my Micro around for a while.

Anyone use the Nova Max (does both ketones and glucose, each one taking a separate strip)?

I use the Accu-chek Aviv Plus as my main meter. I like it a lot. I also have the Nova Max which I use to check ketones. I have tested the two meters against each other a few times and they are within a few point of each other. I like the Nova too and if something were to happen to my Accu-chek, I'd be fine using the Nova as my main meter.

I gave in and bought a Relion Prime :)

Unfortunately, I forgot to keep up my supply of strips for my Micro, so I couldn't test side by side. I did do it this morning, though, and the Prime tested 10 points higher than the Micro (126 versus 116). I suspected it was testing higher. I'll have to confirm it with some more tests.

Anyone else have anything to report on the Prime (the one with the cheaper strips)?

I've repeatedly compared my ultra 2 and my prime and never see any consistent difference.
I ordered some control solution for both meters so we'll see. I would certainly like to make the prime my standard meter because of the cost but at this point, I just don't trust it. Yesterday at lunch the Ultima meter read 102 while the Prime meter read 134. The Ultima gave me a dinnertime reading of 107 and I didn't test with the Prime. The Ultima readings were along the lines I was expecting...certainly didn't expect a 134!:D

Here's a perfect example of REALLY REALLY abnormal readings I get from my Bayer Contour meter. (I've also experienced similar readings from other meters.)
Tonight I had a can of beans along with my salad for dinner. So I expected to have readings a little higher than my normal of ~90.
BUT when I took a reading 2-hours after dinner I got 117.
That was much higher than I expected. So Immediately took another reading from the same drop of blood. That reading was 126.
That was even higher. So I took a third reading from the same drop of blood. Even higher yet; 147 !
SO I took yet a fourth reading from the same drop of blood. It was 114.

How in the world are we suppose to believe these meters ?? !!

Do ten tests each time, and take an average. I'm just kidding of course. I have had the same experience with the same meter. I wish I had an answer.
